If you"ve ever benchmarked a new phone, chances are that you"ve used Geekbench 3 at some point or another. It"s one of the standards among mobile benchmarking. After years of being called Geekbench 3, the app was today updated to Geekbench 4.
The new app will contain updated CPU and new GPU benchmarks. Here are the release notes for the Android version:
Geekbench 4 adds updated CPU benchmarks, new GPU Compute benchmarks, and a Material Design interface.
Interestingly, the iOS and Android versions of the app seem to be different. On Android, Geekbench 4 comes in as an update to Geekbench 3, which is a free app. In the iOS App Store, however, it"s is listed as an entirely new app. Moreover, the iOS description says that as part of the launch of the app, it will be free until September 13.
The listing doesn"t say how much it will cost after the 13th, but if you"re into benchmarking your tech, you should probably grab it now. If it"s not obvious, the Google Play Store says nothing about the free price being temporary.
You can grab Geekbench 4 for iOS here and for Android here.
