With E3 2017 a mere week ago, the wave of gaming news might be taking a breather, but it won"t be long until gamescom takes over. This year"s event has a special guest on the books to kick off proceedings, Germany"s Chancellor, Angela Merkel.
For context, gamescom is an annual video game trade show which takes place in the German city of Cologne, in the Koelnmesse exhibition center. It is the second largest trade show of its kind by exhibition space and number of visitors, attracting over 345,000 people last year. As a comparison, E3, which was first opened to the public this year, attracted around 68,000 folks.
Of Merkel"s participation in the 2017 event, Gerald Böse, Gamescom"s organiser-in-chief, said that it is a "sign of great appreciation for us,", and that the Chancellor"s presence "honours the development of gamescom into one of the most successful and largest events in the German trade fair system."
As a reminder, gamescom takes place August 22 to 26.
