Almost a year ago, Gigabyte revealed its GA-SBCAP3350 single-board computer after a flurry of Raspberry Pi competitors jostled for their own slice of the market made popular by the likes of the Raspberry Pi whose 3B+ iteration was released back in March. However, while Gigabyte"s offering lacked onboard RAM, it gave interested users plenty of options as far as expansion was concerned.
Now, the company is following up with a revised model in the form of the incrementally named GA-SBCAP3450 which features the following high-level specifications:
- Built-in Intel® Celeron™ N3450 (up to 2.2 GHz) quad-core processor
- GIGABYTE Ultra Durable™ Technology with 2x Copper PCB Design
- Single channel DDR3L SO-DIMM slot support
- 2 x RS232/422/485, 2 x RS232, Digital I/O 8-in/8-out
- Mini-PCIe Slot for Half-Length WIFI Card Support
- Mini-PCIe Dual Purpose Slot for mSATA SSD Support
- LVDS Header signal for System Integrated Flat Panel Display Support
- Amplified Speaker Header Able to Drive Up to 2W System Integrated Speaker
- All Solid Capacitors with Humidity Protection New Glass Fabric PCB design
- Dual GbE LAN with high ESD Protection support WOL and PXE
- SBC 146x102mm Form Factor with Wide Range 9~36V DC-In Power Design
Visually, and in terms of specs, the GA-SBCAP3450 is almost identical to its predecessor aside from the clock speed of its passively-cooled Intel Celeron N3450 processor which runs 200MHz slower compared to last year"s N3350 which ran at 2.2GHz. However, this year"s model doubles its core count from two to four cores while keeping its thermal envelope within six watts which may still make the board an attractive option or upgrade for some.
Otherwise, the latest board features all the expansion options as found in the 2017 model. Pricing for the GA-SBCAP3450 has not yet been officially announced but, given how closely its specs align with last year"s offering, it should not deviate too far from the €185 (~$220) the GA-SBCAP3350 is still fetching at the time of writing.
