GIPHY is best known for offering mainly a wide library of animated images called GIFs, allowing you to search for and share short animations with no sound. The service is integrated with various social media platforms including Twitter and Instagram"s Direct messaging. But GIPHY is expanding beyond that service.
The company introduced today a short-form video platform after concluding its first film festival that happened in New York City. On its website dedicated to the film fest, GIPHY said regarding the new offering:
GIPHY is now looking to the future–the future of entertainment itself–and believes an important part of this will be micro-entertainment.
According to The Verge, the company noted that the new video platform is still in its soft launch to give a preview of the upcoming offering in 2019. There are currently 118 videos of up to 18 seconds in length each on its portal submitted as part of the film fest.
GIPHY "s short-form video service is expected to roll out to both desktop and mobile platforms, with options to watch videos in HD and SD formats and to keep them looping. Additionally, videos can be added to favorites in a library and shared to third-party platforms. There"s no word, however, on the service"s exact launch date next year.
