Gmail on iOS updated for first time in 4 years; Google Calendar gets new "views"

Gmail and Google Calendar users on iOS are getting much-needed updates, as Google’s last update to the Gmail came back in 2012. Today, Google launched a completely redesigned Gmail app and added accessibility and search options to Google Calendar.

In a blog post, Matthew Izatt, Gmail product manager, said, “With the new app, getting things done on the go is a lot easier — whether you’re trying to find a message your colleague sent you last month, or trying to get through your work inbox on a Monday morning.”

The changes include the addition of the “Undo Send” feature that launched on the desktop version of Gmail in 2015. Google has also touted an "instant" search experience with more immediate spelling suggestions, and added swipe actions to either archive or delete items.

As for Google Calendar, changes include new month views in landscape and week views in portrait mode. Google also expanded integration with Spotlight and added additional calendar support. Izatt explains, “If you often look up dates in a non-Gregorian calendar — like Lunar, Islamic, or Hindu — you can now add that calendar to easily see those dates alongside your current calendar.”

The newest versions of Gmail and Google Calendar are available today. Google says it will continue to add improve both apps going forward.
