Gmail users can now directly mail Google+ users

Google has announced the rollout of a new feature to Gmail, which would allow users to send emails to Google+ users directly.

According to the official Gmail blog, Gmail users who wish to contact someone on Google+ without knowing their email address can now do so directly through Google"s email service. When adding a recipient to the email, Gmail will now provide suggestions from Google+ contacts in addition to the Gmail address book contacts. The blog post mentions that, the sender will not be able to see the recipient"s email address unless they get a reply and vice-versa.

As with any social feature available in connection with Google+, there is a privacy setting provided for users to decide who gets to send them emails. Mails received from people who are in the user"s circles will be shown in the "Primary" category of the inbox while the ones from people outside the circles will be listed in the "Social" category (if enabled). Users who are worried about being spammed by people outside their circles should note that, a person cannot initiate a second conversation unless the original recipient responds to the email or adds the sender to their circle.

The update is rolling out over the next two days for Gmail users with Google+ profiles and will receive an email notification once activated for their account.
