On Monday, the domain name and website hosting service GoDaddy.com suffered an outage that lasted several hours. The issues not only affected the GoDaddy website, but millions of other websites that used its services. Today, the company issued a statement which gave its reasons for Monday"s problems.
TechCrunch reports that, in a statement credited to GoDaddy.com"s interim CEO Scott Wagner:
The service outage was not caused by external influences. It was not a “hack” and it was not a denial of service attack (DDoS). We have determined the service outage was due to a series of internal network events that corrupted router data tables. Once the issues were identified, we took corrective actions to restore services for our customers and GoDaddy.com. We have implemented measures to prevent this from occurring again.
Wagner added that the outage on Monday did not result in any company data being compromised.
A few Twitter feeds from people or groups that have had ties with the Anonymous hacker group tried to claim responsibility for the GoDaddy.com outage when it happened on Monday. However, it now appears that those groups were simply trying to take advantage of a problem that was actually more mundane, even if it still have a massive effect.
