Nokia held its event at Mobile World Congress 2017 in Barcelona today, where it announced that it will be killing off the Withings brand. Nokia purchased Withings for $191 million in April. Moving forward, Withings Activité hybrid watches will be Nokia-branded.
The firm also announced a major update to its Health Mate app, promising an all-new design and streamlined navigation. It will also include "new coaching programs that take you on a personalized journey to achieve your health goals".
The change comes as Nokia continues to relaunch its brand as a premier consumer device maker. In 2014, Nokia"s devices and service division was purchased by Microsoft, and the firm is finally back in the smartphone business for itself, licensing the brand to HMD Mobile. Indeed, with Activité and a selection of handsets, Nokia and HMD are well on their way to creating their own mobile ecosystem.
