Xiaomi is a company well-known within Asia that offers affordable and attractive handsets. But the company really outdid itself when it debuted the unexpected Mi MIX earlier last week. While we tend to see lots of these types of "concept handsets", it"s often many years before we see a hint of the technology trickle into consumer products.
While the Mi MIX looked like something that would be available in a few years, many were caught by surprise when the company made it public that the handset would be sold in limited quantities the following month. Today, Xiaomi made two versions available for sale on its website, which sold out in a matter of ten seconds.
The phenomenon has definitely set a new record for the company, besting the prior record set by the Xiaomi Note 2, which sold out in 50 seconds. Naturally, we have no idea how many of the MIX handsets Xiaomi produced and made available, but it is certainly good to know that a company can release something completely out of left field and have it gain so much positive attention from the public.
For those interested, the Xiaomi Mi MIX offers:
- 6.4-inch LCD screen, with 1080 x 2040 resolution
- Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor,
- 4GB/6GB RAM
- 128GB/256GB non-expandable storage
- 16-megapixel, f/2.0 primary camera
- 5-megapixel secondary camera
- Fingerprint scanner
- 4,400 mAh battery
- USB Type-C
While Xiaomi was sold out for the time being, the handset can be purchased from third party websites for a slight markup.
