Almost seven months after unveiling its Pixel and Pixel XL, Google has added the two devices to its product life cycle support page, which informs customers on how long they can continue to expect their handsets to be updated.
The information that it"s added there isn"t actually new - in fact, we reported it on the day of the handsets" announcement in October 2016 - but it reaffirms the company"s earlier commitment, and makes it easier for Google"s customers to refer those details as needed.
Google committed to a minimum of two years of Android OS updates from the handsets" launch, along with three years of security updates - the same commitment that the company made to owners of its older Nexus devices. Google says that the Pixel and Pixel XL will receive new versions of Android until at least October 2018, while security updates will continue until at least October 2019.
The Pixel and Pixel XL recently received the latest update, Android 7.1.2, and Google is already working on its next major version of the OS, currently known as Android O.
