Cloud gaming seems to be a big thing for many companies right now, and Google could be set to show off its own take on the concept at the Game Developers Conference next month. The Mountain View giant has sent out invites to a keynote taking place at GDC on March 19, and though it"s not clear what it will be about, it seems likely that we"ll hear about Project Stream.
Google has been working on its game streaming service for some time now, and it"s even tested it with the public already. Assassin"s Creed Odyssey could be played on the company"s Chrome browser if you were chosen to participate in the testing program last year. The invite itself doesn"t really give us much to go on, though. It"s just what looks to be a dark hallway followed by a bright light before the event date is shown.
The competition in the cloud gaming market seems to be fierce before it even starts. Microsoft has its own Project xCloud in the works for the same purpose, and companies such as Amazon and even Verizon have been reported to be working on their own services for this purpose. As of yet, however, neither of these companies has come forth with something consumers can actually use, so it looks like we"ll be waiting a while to see what this new era of gaming will look like.
