Google today announced Jamboard, which is to be "your team’s collaborative, cloud-first whiteboard". The device will feature the same real-time collaboration tools that are found in G Suite, which was formerly known as Google Apps for Work.
Featuring a 55-inch 4K display, Jamboard is clearly designed to compete with Microsoft"s Surface Hub, which only has a 1080p display on the 55-inch model. Google"s device also undercuts the Surface by quite a bit, coming in at "under $6,000" while Microsoft"s 55-inch model comes in at $8,999.
Google says that it"s a hassle to use a whiteboard, forcing people to quickly take a picture of their work before it gets erased, or having to mark work with "do not erase". With the Jamboard, everything is saved in the cloud, and can be shared through Hangouts, a service that the company recently promised to aim at businesses.
The firm partnered with G Suite users to work on the product, such as Instrument, Netflix, and Spotify. While Jamboard isn"t due to ship until 2017, Google says that it wants to partner with a broader range of G Suite customers for its Early Adopter Program.
