Dark mode for the Google app has been a long time coming, as the roll out first started for Pixel users with the launch of Android 10, followed by reports of beta testers starting to see the update through the course of the year. Now, the search giant has finally announced via a tweet that dark mode is officially rolling out to Android and iOS users.
The updated theme option is rolling out to users on Android 10, iOS 12, and iOS 13, and will adapt to the system’s theme. However, users can also head into the app’s settings to force the app to change to a different theme if they do not want the app to obey the system theme. Since this is a staggered rollout, not all users will see the change right away.
Starting today & fully rolling out this week, dark mode is now available for the Google App on Android 10 and iOS 12/13. By default, the Google App will reflect your device’s system settings in Android 10 & iOS 13. If that’s set to a dark theme, the app will be in dark mode…. pic.twitter.com/ZqSD33ZhNt

While the Mountain View giant’s tweet notes the availability of the theme for the Google app only on Android 10, 9to5Google reports that the theme is also available for users running older versions of Android and that the theme can be changed through the app’s settings. It is to be seen if the firm officially confirms the availability of this feature for users of older Android versions.
For those on Android 10, however, the app itself serves a notification letting users know that the dark theme is now available. Though still minor, the feature is a welcome addition for users that prefer dark themes, especially when using the apps in dimly lit areas or at night.
