Earlier this week, it emerged that Google was planning to bring its digital Assistant to iOS. Those rumors proved to be accurate, as the company announced today that the Assistant will soon be available on iPhones.
Google said that with its expansion to iPhones, the Assistant will be available to all users "no matter what smartphone you use" - apparently, Google forgot about Windows phones, but that"s an easy mistake to make.
"The Assistant brings together all your favorite Google features on the iPhone", the company said. "Just ask to get package delivery details from Gmail, watch videos from your favorite YouTube creators, get answers from Google search, and much more. You can even turn on the lights and heat up the house before you get home."
That announcement came at Google"s I/O developer conference, where it also announced that Android is now in use on over 2 billion monthly active devices. Google revealed that the Assistant is now in use on over 100 million devices.
The Assistant is also getting new language support this summer, with the addition of French, German, Brazilian Portuguese, and Japanese, on Android phones and iPhones. By the end of this year, it will also support Italian, Spanish, and Korean.
Update: Google Assistant is now available on iPhones in the United States, but it"s still unclear when it will be supported on Apple"s handsets in other markets.
