A year ago, almost to the day, Google unveiled its new digital Assistant, which made its debut on the company"s Pixel and Pixel XL handsets, and its Home speaker hub. Since then, it"s been made available on other devices too, including Android Wear 2.0 smartwatches and Android-powered TVs.
Now, it appears that Google is also preparing to bring its Assistant to an entirely different platform. Citing an unnamed "trusted source", Android Police reports that Google could announce availability of the Assistant on iOS as soon as this week, at its I/O developer conference.
Due to Apple"s restrictions in its operating system, Google Assistant won"t be deeply integrated with iOS. Instead, the Assistant will be released on Apple devices as a standalone app, offering "a blend of the "chat" style functionality in the Google Allo version of the Assistant, and the voice-controlled version found on Android", according to the report.
