Today, Google announced quite a bit of innovation at its event in India. While Android Go, a slimmed down version of Android 8.0 Oreo took center stage, it also touted that its Google Assistant would be arriving to feature phones.
The first phone to arrive with the Assistant will be the JioPhone, a handset that offers 4G and runs KaiOS. As far as other specifications go, the handset offers a 2.4-inch color display, 2,000mAh battery, 3.5mm headphone jack, and support for an SD card slot. While it might look basic, the phone does actually provide quite a bit of features in a small package, even offering support for downloadable content like apps and a web browser.
As mentioned before, the handset will offer support for Google"s Assistant, which will be a customized version for the JioPhone. While the look might be different, the core functionality of the Assistant should remain the same as what you experience on a supported Android device. It is unknown at this time whether other feature phones will get the Assistant.
