Five months ago, Google announced the first details of Android O, the next major version of its operating system. Last month, it released its fourth Developer Preview of the update, and said that the final version of the new OS version would be coming "soon".
Today, Google launched a new teaser site, counting down to a big announcement related to Android O, as well as the total solar eclipse, which will take place on the same day. The site states:
Android O is touching down to earth with the total solar eclipse, bringing some super (sweet) new powers!
On August 21st, a solar eclipse will sweep across the entire United States for the first time since 1918. Android is helping you experience this historic natural phenomenon so you can learn more about the eclipse and count down to the big day—when you’ll meet the next release of Android and all of it’s super (sweet) new powers, revealed via livestream from New York City at 2:40PM ET.
We still don"t know which sweet, delicious treat Android O will actually be named after, but we"re likely to finally find out on Monday. It seems safe to say that it probably won"t be Octopus.
You can head over to the teaser site to find out more about the solar eclipse, including a handy feature that will tell you what time the eclipse will reach your location (if at all).
