Google confirms that its Assistant will not be made available on any Android tablets

"By launching on my Android tablet?"

Last month, Google announced that it was bringing its digital Assistant to more devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow and 7.0 Nougat. Previously, the Assistant had been exclusively available on Google"s own Pixel and Pixel XL flagships, along with its Google Home speaker, and Android Wear devices.

In its announcement, Google referred only to "smartphones", "Android phones" and "partner phones", but said nothing at all about Android tablets. It turns out there was a good reason for that.

In a statement to Android Police, Google confirmed that the Assistant will not be made available on any Android tablets:

The Assistant will be available on Android Marshmallow and Nougat phones with Google Play Services, this does not include tablets.

Google didn"t categorically rule out the possibility of ever bringing the Assistant to tablets, but it"s probably best not to hold your breath.

It"s not been a great month for the Assistant, after it was found to be spewing loony conspiracy theories thanks to Google"s Featured Snippets feature, which attempts to provide a single definitive answer to any question - but doesn"t always base its responses on the most reliable of sources. This week, users of the Assistant found that Google had inserted an ad for the new Beauty and the Beast movie into their daily summaries.
