Ever since the dawn of smartphones, most of Google"s web services have been supported by the Android mobile platform, or for others, at the very least have a mobile version available -- all except Google Docs -- which is set to change shortly with Google announcing a mobile version of the online document editing suite.
In a post on the Official Google Mobile Blog today, Google announced that the latest version of the Google documents editor supports a mobile browser. Right now, it looks like the document and spreadsheet components are the only two supported. The post actually points out that you can"t create new documents, but only edit existing ones. So if you"re on the go and have no documents already created, you"re out of luck.
Google says that they will be rolling the mobile version of docs.google.com out to users with a Android device running 2.2, and iOS devices running 3.0 and up. No word on whether or not this will be hitting other platforms, such as Windows Phone 7 yet, though it would make sense for the company to compete with the built in Microsoft Office functionality.
