Google Duo could soon get invite links for group video calls

A teardown of the latest version of the Google Duo for Android points to Google working on allowing users to share invite links for group video and audio calls. The generated link can then be shared with anyone who the user wants to join the call.

Anyone who receives the link will join the group video call by simply tapping on it. Right before joining the call though, Duo will first prompt them to have a look at the members of the call. They will also be warned if there are no known contacts in the call or if a blocked contact is present in the video call. Since group video calling in Duo is not available on the web, users won"t be able to use the invite links to join group calls from their PC.

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a rise in the usage of video calling apps and services. Google itself has rolled out multiple improvements for Duo over the last month or so including the ability to take a picture while on a video call, using a new AV1 codec for improved video quality, expanding the group call limit to 12 and beyond, and more.
