Google has finally commented on the speculation around the mystery barges docked in various cities and revealed that they could be used as an interactive space where people can learn about Google"s technologies.
Barges docked in Portland, Maine and San Francisco have been in the news during the last month, but their exact purpose was not revealed. Speculation has ranged from the barge being a floating white elephant to a Google Glass experience store over this time. Now, a Google spokesperson has told TechCrunch that the barges could be used as interactive space to make people aware of Google"s technologies.
Here"s what the spokesperson had to say:
Google Barge … A floating data center? A wild party boat? A barge housing the last remaining dinosaur? Sadly, none of the above. Although it’s still early days and things may change, we’re exploring using the barge as an interactive space where people can learn about new technology.
The barges have been designed to be portable making it easy to move components on land or sea easily. The Google Barge project is speculated to be a part of Sergey Brin"s Google[x] labs formed for experimental products.
We"ll know more about what Google has in store once they release a detailed statement, until then there"s still room for conspiracy theories going by the current comment made.
