Google gets sassy in firing back to Microsoft's 'Scroogled' merchandise

"Keep calm while we steal your data." It"s a quote you might find on Microsoft"s new line of Scroogled merchandise, just the latest effort to further its Scroogled campaign against Google. It"s a pretty sassy quote at that and it"s part of the general aim of the campaign: to exploit Google"s weaknesses and tarnish its brand power. Well, it didn"t take long for Google to find out about the merchandise and it has a sassy remark to fire right back at Microsoft.

"Microsoft’s latest venture comes as no surprise; competition in the wearables space really is heating up," Google said in a formal response.

One word: burn. A safe assumption can be made that Google is referring to its Google Glass technology along with other attempts at wearable tech like Samsung"s Galaxy Gear smartwatch. (The word "attempt" is used very loosely in that latter example.) Microsoft, on the other hand, isn"t offering up much in the wearables department other than these Scroogled shirts, hats, and hoodies.

Like it or not though, Microsoft"s Scroogled campaign actually seems to be working. It"s no secret to people who keep up with technology news that Google has a habit of getting a little too close for comfort with its users. Microsoft is trying to broadcast, and perhaps exaggerate, that mentality to the masses. However, whether Microsoft went a little too far with the actual merchandise is definitely up for debate. Plus, Google"s response shows no sign of intimidation.
