Google announced through a post on the Google Glass page at Google+ that they have made modifications to the existing headset using feedback from users of the Explorer edition and will be shipping to developers soon.
The new version of Google Glass comes with a detachable earbud in addition to the bone conduction speaker which was introduced in the first version. Many users have complained about issues with the bone conduction speaker, which probably led to the introduction of the mono-earbud. Google has also revealed that the device will be receiving monthly software updates using the continuous feedback.
Google will be releasing an attachment for Glass which would make it usable with prescription frames in the near future. The attachment would be compatible with the new and earlier versions of Glass. Existing Glass Explorer edition users will be allowed to swap their existing headsets for the new one. The swap program has begun and developers have up to 60 days to decide whether they want the new version. Also, these users now have the opportunity to invite three friends to join the program.
Slashgear has reported that some developers have already started receiving the new Glass headset and images of the new specs have already appeared online.
A patent of the version 2.0 of Glass was filed back in February which looks quite different from what we are seeing here, suggesting that this is just a minor cosmetic change.
Glass was released to developers back in February and will be available for the general public in the coming months.
