Google Glass is still not available for sale to the general public, but the few people lucky enough to be invited to spend $1,500 for the Explorer edition will soon have a bigger variety of frames to choose from. This week, Google announced that current Explorer owners will have the option to purchase from a selection of four titanium frames for an extra price of $225.
The post on the Google+ site for Google Glass states that the frames come in Curve, Thin, Split, and Bold styles and each has eight different color options ( Charcoal, Cotton, Shale, Sky, and Tangerine, Classic and Edge). That means Google Glass owners will soon have over 40 different style and color choices for their eyewear. Google will also offer two new styles of twist-on shades for those titanium frames.
The company stated that people who need prescription lenses might be able to get the new frames for free if their insurance agrees to cover the costs. Adding more frame options would seem to be another step towards Google Glass being sold to everyone, but so far Google has yet to offer any real guidance on when that might happen.
