Google+ growth slowing down, says report

After launching a month ago and reportedly gaining a quick 20 million registered users (according to third party metrics), a new report claims that the massive growth in Google+ might be slowing down a bit. News.com reports that according to data from Experian Hitwise, Google+ had a slight decrease in unique visitors in the last week. Google+ users also reportedly spent less time on the site last week than they did in previous weeks.

Experian Hitwise states that for the week ending July 23,  Google+ had a total of 1.79 million visits. That"s a small 3 percent decrease compared to the 1.86 million visits that the social networking service had in the previous week. Also Experian Hitwise claims that the average Google+ user spent a total of 5 minutes and 15 seconds per visit on the service. That"s down 10 percent from the average visit time of 5 minutes and 50 seconds for the previous week.

Google would not comment on Experian Hitwise"s numbers when asked by News.com. However the company did say that using the number of visitors as a way to determine traffic for a site is not the same as traffic from the number of real users. Google also states Experian Hitwise" numbers don"t take into account the number of people who use mobile apps to access Google+. The numbers also miss out on users who visit Google+ via another Google service such a person"s Gmail account. Officially Google said in its financial results last week that Google+ had over 10 million users at the time of the report.
