Google has no plans to kill Blogger brand name

A few days ago rumors hit the Internet that as part of a change in branding for most of Google"s divisions, the long running blogging company Blogger would soon dump that branding and change it to Google Blogs. Now GigaOM is reporting via an unnamed Google spokesperson that the company in fact has no such plans to get rid of the Blogger name for its blog division.

Just before that story was posted, GigaOM also talked to Evan Williams, the founder of Blogger and later the co-founder of Twitter. While social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook seem to be getting more people using them to express their thoughts, Williams is quoted as saying, "I’m guessing if you talked to folks at Blogger or WordPress (see disclosure), they’d say the numbers are bigger than ever, which makes it a difficult case to say classic blogging is gone." He added that people need to perhaps concentrate more to update a blog than to write a quick post on Twitter or Facebook, saying, "Maybe that means the active blogging user base is only tens of millions of people, globally, instead of hundreds of millions for these other services."

Google continues to improve and add new features for its users. Indeed earlier this week the Blogger interface got a major overalls. It"s now available on its Draft web page. It has improvements in checking out a blog"s traffic stats and also how much money you have earned via Google"s ad program. There are also improvements in creating posts themselves.
