Late last year, Google expanded its family of Google Home devices with the low-cost Home Mini and the behemoth that is the Home Max. While the cheaper device was announced for a number of markets right off the bat, the Home Max was only announced for the United States. It later made its way to Canada as well, but it"s only now heading to a country outside of America.
As announced today through the company"s official blog for Australia, the Home Max is making its way to the region on August 9 through retailers such as JB Hi-Fi, Harvey Norman, David Jones, The Good Guys, Officeworks, and Google"s own store. The device will have a recommended retail price of 549 AUD, the equivalent to around $406 in the United States.
The Google Home Max boasts all the smart capabilities of its siblings such as the ability to control smart home devices and respond to other queries thanks to Google Assistant, but it also features much louder sound. Google claims that the sound from the Max is 20 times more powerful than a regular Google Home, and it features "smart sound" as well, which means the device will adapt the sound output based on the environment it"s in.
Google is taking some time to roll out its most expensive speaker to other markets, but that seems natural as the smart speaker category is relatively new and tends to favor English-speaking markets. With a price tag as high as the Max"s, it"s not surprising that the company would prefer to release it first in countries where users can enjoy all of its features.
