Last week, Google began upgrading some of its devices to Android 7.1.2 Nougat, the latest minor update to the OS. It also published factory images for many of its Nexus and Pixel devices, and although it dropped support for the Nexus 6 and 9, those devices will still continue to receive security updates.
However, those who tested beta builds of Android 7.1.2 have so far been left out of the final release, but it looks like that"s now changing. Google has now begun moving those running the Android 7.1.2 beta to the final non-preview version of the same update, starting with the Nexus 6P. The Nexus 6P received the first Android 7.1.2 beta three weeks after other Nexus devices.
The update now available for the 6P is just 25.4MB in size, which isn"t surprising, given that the update"s sole purpose is to switch the device from the beta version of 7.1.2 to the final stable build - so while owners of that handset won"t see any big changes in this update, it will make it easier for them to get future over-the-air updates.
Incidentally, Android Police notes that some Nexus 6P owners were being offered another update to the beta after installing the final 7.1.2 update - but it appears that that was an error on Google"s part, which has now been resolved.
It"s not yet clear if Google plans to release any further 7.1.x updates, as the company has already begun its developer preview program for the next major version of the OS, currently known as "Android O".
