Australian Android users will soon have access to free turn-by-turn navigation, with a beta of Google Maps Navigation for Android set to be released Wednesday.
iTWire has reported that the search giant has sent out invites to a Wednesday morning press event at Google"s Australian HQ, promising a first look at the navigation platform.
""What happens when your personal navigation device is powered by Google? We’d like to invite you to the launch of an exciting mobile update - Google Maps Navigation (Beta),"" the invite reads.
""Google Product Manager for Maps, Andrew Foster, will present the key features of Google Maps Navigation (Beta), which will be followed by a Q&A session.""
The hour-long event will be split into a 40 minute demo of Google Maps Navigation followed by a 20 minute Q&A session.
Australia is among the last counties to receive access to Google"s navigation offering, which includes features such as 3D views, turn-by-turn voice guidance and automatic rerouting. The application was first launched for US users in October 2009, with a range of European countries added in June this year.
Google is reportedly working with Apple to bring Google Maps Navigation to iOS, though the two parties have been silent on any progress or a tentative release date.
