Google Meet now lets you check for device and connection issues before joining a call

Google announced today that it has added a new capability to let you detect common issues prior to joining a Meet call. You can now check whether your video, audio, and internet connection are working properly before making a call or joining a conference.

The new feature allows you to preview how you will look in a video call and make sure that your video and peripherals are properly configured. You can adjust your lighting and positioning, for example, for better video quality. You can also fix connection issues, if any, before an actual Meet call.

Google noted that the latest change comes in handy in situations where you might have unknowingly muted your microphone or when a secondary display does not have a headphone or speaker connection. For audio-related issues, the new feature lets you check how noise cancellation affects your audio or if your audio is too loud.

To get started, you can click the "Check your audio and video" button that appears on your screen before entering a call. Google will provide tips on how to troubleshoot common issues it may detect.

The feature is available from today to Google Workspace customers with Essentials, Business Starter, Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus accounts. Those with G Suite Basic, Business, Education, Enterprise for Education, and Nonprofits accounts can also access the new capability.
