Yesterday, Google announced that its social network, Google+, will now feature a more integrated experience with its e-mail service, Gmail. The new integration features will allow users to directly interact with notifications from their Google+ account in Gmail.
According to a blog post by Zohair Hyder on the company"s official Gmail blog, Google+ e-mails in Gmail will now be interactive, allowing users to directly respond to Google+ comments while in Gmail. Hyder outlines the additional features as follows:
- You can view, comment on, and +1 posts from inside your inbox
- Your comments appear in the Google+ stream in real-time, and
- Responses from others instantly appear in Gmail, as part of the notification message
Google+ users who use a non-Gmail e-mail service will still be able to reply to Google+ notification e-mails, which will allow them to respond to Google+ comments.
The update will be rolled out over the next week to Gmail users who have a Google+ account, according to Hyder"s post.
Google+ was launched on June 28, 2011, and saw an influx of users in the coming months. Since then, however, Google+ has seen its active user base decline significantly. Earlier this year, the social network was surpassed by Pinterest as the third most-popular social networking site. Google+ reached the 100 million user milestone in February and the company launched a redesigned version of Google+ in April.
