Google on Apple: “We talk to them every day”

To say Apple’s native mapping is flawed… you’d be hard pressed to find someone who will say that it works well. With reports that Google has been fighting with Apple to get the Google Maps app approved on the App Store exaggerated, Google’s Eric Schmidt admitted that they have “not done anything yet” to offer iOS 6 users a substitute to iOS Maps.

Schmidt is currently in Japan promoting and launching Google’s Nexus 7 tablet, introducing Google Play Books and new movie content, but he took time out to speak to address the mapping issues with reporters.

We think it would have been better if they had kept ours. But what do I know? What were we going to do, force them not to change their mind? It"s their call.

When Apple made the decision to drop Google Maps and introduce what is now iOS Maps, Google has always stated that they work to develop solutions for every mobile platform, including iOS.

Google Maps in iOS

With iOS 6 showing good adoption rate in the first two days of release, iDevice users automatically get the iOS Maps bundled in with the new OS. But the negative press is something that Apple just can’t walk away from.

While Google has not yet moved to launch a mapping app, it has been “talking to [Apple] for a long time; we talk to them every day.” It’s no secret that Google will continue to push Google Maps on Apple mobile devices. In June, Senior Vice President, Commerce & Local at Google, Jeff Huber said the company is dedicated to “providing amazing Google Maps experiences on iOS.”

So, no if"s or maybe"s; it’s only a matter of time before Google launch something new for iOS devices.
