Google Pixel 4 unboxing and first impressions

Earlier this week, Google announced the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL, its newest flagship smartphones. The company gave me a Pixel 4 to test out at the event, although it sent me a Pixel 4 XL later on. The handsets include improvements all around.

For one thing, the design has changed. Gone is the old two-tone look, and the back glass panel now has a solid color, which can be Clearly White, Just Black, and Oh So Orange. It does have a black frame though, which gives it a nice look, inspired by its HTC roots.

And of course, there"s a dual-lens camera now, with the second lens being for 2x lossless zoom. In fact, Google put a lot of work into lossless zoom beyond 2x, but I haven"t gotten to test that out just yet. There are other new camera features as well, such as dual exposure adjustment and astrophotography. The new camera looks like it will once again be a winner.

The screen is 90Hz OLED, with 1080p and 1440p resolution on the Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL, respectively. That means that it"s buttery smooth. We first saw the feature on some OnePlus handsets, but it will be nice to see it become more common.
