The Pixel 4a has already leaked in renders but not much is known about its internals. A new report from XDA Developers claims that the device will come with a Snapdragon 730 chipset. This is because references have been found which links one of the leaked code names of the Pixel 4a -- ""sunfish"" -- to the "Google Pixel 4a" name. The same codename is also used by Qualcomm for its Snapdragon 730 mobile platform.
Considering the Pixel 4a will be a mid-range device, the use of a Snapdragon 730 chip inside it makes sense. However, this also means that the device will not come with 5G as the Snapdragon 730 platform only offers 4G connectivity. With Google probably not working on a Pixel 4 XL this year, it is unclear if we are going to see a mid-range Pixel with 5G connectivity this year or not.
So far, three code names of the Pixel 4a series have leaked: "sunfish", "redfin," and "bramble." The latter two code names have been associated with devices that are based on the Snapdragon 765 platform which features 5G connectivity. With the Pixel 4a now essentially confirmed to be "sunfish," it is unclear which devices the "redfin" and "bramble" code names point to. It is possible that Google is working on a Pixel 4a XL with 5G and Snapdragon 765 chip but there have not been any substantive leaks on this front.
As for the Pixel 4a, it will come with a 5.7-inch FHD+ display, USB-C, a 12MP rear shooter, and a 3.5mm headphone jack. Google is expected to announce the device at its I/O conference in May 2020.
