Despite all its compromises, Google equipped the Pixel 4 lineup with a 90Hz OLED panel. For 2020, the company is seemingly planning to one-up itself by using a 120Hz OLED panel on the device.
As per Ross Young, the founder of DisplaySearch and DSCC, Google is planning to use a 6.67-inch 120Hz OLED panel on the Pixel 5. The company will be sourcing the panels from Samsung and BOE. What remains to be seen is whether Google implements variable refresh rate or not that will offer the best of both worlds -- performance and battery life.
Next new Google phone, the 5G version, will be 6.67” from Samsung Display and BOE.

The Pixel 4 XL shipped with a 6.3-inch display so the jump to a 6.67-inch panel would be a substantial one. However, if Google ends up reducing the bezels by ditching Motion Sense and ends up going with a hole-punch display, the size increase is unlikely to be substantial. The Project Soli-based Motion Sense features in the Pixel 4 series looked cool on paper but did not really work properly in the real-world. Thus, it is unlikely that Google will continue to use the technology on its upcoming Pixel 5 handset which is something rumors have been suggesting as well.
Google has already teased the Pixel 5 earlier this week alongside the launch of the Pixel 4a. Apart from the Pixel 5, Google is also preparing to launch the Pixel 4a (5G) later this year.
