One would think that a USB Type-C to 3.5mm headphone adapter is pretty simple. After all, they simply exist to provide a headphone jack in handsets where it was removed. But as it turns out, there"s room for a refreshed model in Google"s lineup.
Spotted by Android Police, the device provides 53% lower latency and 38% longer playback on Pixel devices. The store listing, however, says that it works best with "Pixel and other devices running Android P or higher." In other words, you might not see the same improvements from handsets not running Android 9.0 Pie yet, which is the vast majority of them.
The new one is also a tiny bit smaller than the previous model. You won"t notice any actual changes, as it"s just 2.8mm shorter, and the other dimensions are less than a millimeter smaller.
The most notable change though is likely the price. Rather than costing $9 like the old one did, the new dongle costs $12. When the original dongle first came out, it was $20. Because that was so excessive, the company quickly reduced it to $9.
