Google has announced that it is making the Art Selfie feature available globally for Android and iOS via the Google Arts & Culture app. The app uses computer vision technology based on machine learning to match your selfie with a piece of artwork in Google’s collection. Google can match you with tens of thousands of artworks from collections belonging to its partner museums from around the world.
Once you snap a picture, you’ll be presented with a selection of artworks and you’ll be given a percentage based on the accuracy between you are the art. Once you get the results, you can tap on the pieces of art to discover more information about the artist. It’s a pretty interesting way to get people introduced to art as it can sometimes be difficult to relate or understand the relevance between different pieces of art.
According to Google, users should stay on the lookout for the feature cropping up in the Google Lens app for Android next time you use Lens on artwork.
In order to use Art Selfie, just grab the latest Google Arts & Culture update and scroll down the homepage until you see the feature.
