Google today is adding Focus mode to Digital Wellbeing on devices running Android 9 or 10. The feature was first teased by Google at its I/O conference in May this year and was under beta testing for the last few months.
Focus mode will let you pause selected apps meaning their icon will be grayed out and all incoming notifications from them will be hidden. Users also have the option to schedule Focus mode to automatically turn on for selected apps during a specified time and days of the week.
The feature is aimed at helping one cut down on their distraction from gaming or Twitter/social media addiction when they should actually be working or are in school.
To open an app that"s disabled by Focus mode, one has to go into Settings and then disable focus mode for it. Not exactly rocket science but still a good enough deterrent.
Focus mode will be available for devices running Android 9 or Android 10 which have access to the Digital Wellbeing tools. Google can update Digital Wellbeing independently of the OS and is rolling out this feature as an update via the Play Store.
