Let"s face it, Google"s Chrome browser doesn"t have the best reputation when it comes to speed or battery life these days. In fact, if you use the browser on Windows 10, you might even see alerts that it"s draining your battery faster than Edge would.
The company clearly plans to change all of that, as it published a blog post today to show that Chrome is much faster than it was a year ago. In fact, Google claims that when using tools like Speedometer, it"s 15% faster on both Windows and Android.
Google also published a time-lapse video on YouTube, using matching Surface Books to demonstrate that Chrome 53 gets much better battery life than Chrome 46. The test watches video from sites such as Vimeo, Facebook, and YouTube to show that the current browser gets two hours and twelve minutes more battery life than the year-old version.
Of course, the improvements aren"t all on Android and Windows. Chrome for Mac should also see 33% better battery life than it used to, and that"s not just when watching video. That includes "everything from videos and images to simple page scrolling."
Google didn"t go so far as to compare the browser"s battery results with other browsers, such as Microsoft"s Edge browser or Mozilla"s Firefox. Presumably, it still has a bit of work to do before it gets there.
