Google Talk Video and Voice chat announced for Nexus S

Google announced today that Video Chat is heading to their Nexus S handset. The option for Video Chat will land over the next few weeks as part of an Android 2.3.4 over-the-air update and is set to launch on other 2.3.x devices over the coming months. According to the Google Nexus twitter account, another additional surprise is set to be announced soon.

Google Talk with Video and Voice chat for Android phones will let you text voice and video chat with friends directly from the phone or tablet that you are using, or even via Gmail if you have Google talk setup on your computer. It works with both 3G and 4G alongside the usual Wi-Fi option.

Using Video or voice chat with Google Talk on your Android device is very simple, your contacts will have either a voice or video icon next to them and you then simply touch the button and away you go.  It also includes the option to pause video and then check your home screen or other applications, while continuing to allow voice chat to work in the background.

The video quality seems very good judging from the YouTube video (viewable below) that Google has put out and it won’t be very long before we get to find out what it is like for ourselves as Android 2.3.4 will be in the hands of Nexus S users very soon.
