Google has taken to Twitter today to tease its upcoming Google Play Pass subscription service, simply stating that it’s “almost time” for its arrival. The service was revealed in screenshots last month and a spokesperson for the company did confirm that it was testing the service. Google Play Pass will be going up against Apple Arcade which was announced earlier this year.
The screenshots released last month reveal that users will be able to get a 10-day trial of Google Play Pass before paying $4.99 per month. By subscribing, customers get access to hundreds of premium apps and games without ads, download fees, or in-app purchases. The service will likely be most ideal for mobile gamers who tend to buy in-game purchases.
It’s unclear exactly when we will see Google Play Pass released but Google is due to announce the Pixel 4 soon so it could be released around the same time. It’ll be interesting to see whether Google can get its Android users to take out a Play Pass subscription or not. Those who tend to buy in-app purchases will probably be the easiest people to persuade to sign-up.
