Most tech companies describe themselves using phrases like "good corporate citizens", although allegations of tax evasion and the like tend to make such words sound a little hollow. But tech giants - including the likes of Microsoft, Apple and Google - do a lot for local and international communities with large-scale philanthropic programs.
In fact, Google has just announced that it will be donating $10 million to help efforts to fight Ebola, and it will give up to $5 million more, by matching $2 for every $1 donated by the public to various not-for-profit organizations.
As Huffington Post reports, the money will go to the "donor-advised fund Network for Good, which will then distribute it to "four nonprofits doing critical work in West Africa"", according to Google. The company will also pay the processing fees on all donations, so that all of the money goes to those groups that need it.
Google"s donations are separate to the $15m that Google CEO Larry Page"s Family Foundation has already given to supporting non-profit organizations working to help contain the spread of Ebola.
