Google to sunset even more projects and some official blogs

Just a month ago, Google announced plans to shut down even more of its projects and businesses, including Google Video and iGoogle. Now the company has announced plans to close the doors on some more projects, as well as a number of its blogs.

In a post on the main Google blog, the company said that starting on September 4th, it will shut down Google Apps for Teams and transfer the remaining accounts to personal Google accounts. The company said that Google Apps for Teams, which launched in 2008, was "not as useful for people as we originally anticipated."

Google Listen, which was released in 2009 as a way to find and listen to podcasts, will have its search component stopped after November 1st. Google felt that since the launch of the Google Play store for Android, there were plenty of third party podcast apps to choose from. The company said, "You can access your podcast subscriptions in Google Reader in the "Listen Subscriptions" folder and download them from the Import/Export tab."

Google also plans to shut down Google Video for Business sometime later this fall and transfer all videos found in that service over to Google Drive. Finally, the company will either shut down or consolidate a number of its official blogs that either are not updated on a regular basis or have content that is similar to other blogs. The company didn"t state exactly how many of its blogs will be discontinued.
