Google TV to add support for OnLive streaming gaming

OnLive"s streaming PC gaming service will be available in the future for all devices that have Google TV installed. In a new press release today, OnLive announced that current owners of Google TV-based televisions and set-top boxes can go ahead and download the OnLive Viewer. It will enable Google TV users to watch video clips of gameplay from other OnLive users along with mass spectating of live games and text and voice chat.

Later in 2012, OnLive will enable full support for Google TV owners, allowing them to purchase and stream full PC games to any Google TV powered television, set-top boxes and Blu-Ray players. At CES 2012 this week the company is demoing that part of the service on an upcoing Vizio television.

Earlier at CES, OnLive"s main rival in the streaming PC game business, Gaikai, announced its own agreement with LG to offer its service to future LG televisions. It will be interesting to see if having these two services offer high end PC games directly to a TV with no need for a game console will affect the decisions of the three main game console companies: Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo.
