Google announced today a spate of new products and updates to its existing services meant to address the needs of its users in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.
The newest product introduced by the search giant is Gallery Go, a lightweight version of Google Photos optimized to work even in areas with poor internet connection. Coming in at just 10MB from the Play Store, Gallery Go borrows many of Google Photos" salient features for managing and editing photos, including the single-tap button for enhancing images automatically. The app supports devices running Android 8.1 Oreo or newer.
In addition, Google is making it easier for motorcycle riders in Nigeria, Benin Republic, Ghana, Rwanda, Togo, and Uganda to navigate those places with a new dedicated travel mode. This feature is only one of the capabilities Google Maps is adding, including navigation instructions in a Nigerian voice for drivers and soon the integration of Danfo routes into the mapping service for improved travels through Lagos, Africa.
Google also announced that it"s baking the Discover feed into Google Go to help users access curated content using low-end devices and under limited internet connectivity. Google Lens will also reside within Google Go from today to make searches quicker through a phone"s camera.
Google Assistant will also become accessible via Google Go beginning next week, complete with a new Nigerian voice for the digital assistant.
