The next generation of payment systems is about to get a massive shot in the arm thanks to Google. Near Field Communication (NFC) is a technology that is on the verge of becoming mainstream. While the technology behind the payment is not new, it has yet to be deployed in most parts of the world.
While it is true that there are some countries already using NFC, there are far more who currently have not yet to adopted this type of payment system. But if Google has its way, NFC may become mainstream, as early as tomorrow. The crew over thisismynext got ahold of some documentation that tells a bit about Google Wallet, the companies NFC program.
The service will launch around September 1st and will include NFC readers at retail locations. The Container Store was mentioned by name as already being onboard and it is expected many other corporate clients will join the party too. Google will be looking to promote its brand as it attempts to become the leader in NFC point of sales and provide itself with yet another revenue stream.
What all Google will be doing to entice end users and corporate clients to come onboard with the technology is not yet know. Regardless of what Google announces, you can bet that there will be competitors entering the market soon, as with anything else, it"s a race for widespread adoption for a new way to pay for products.
