Google working on automatic call screening of robocalls for Pixel smartphones

Google is working on enhancing the call screening feature on its Pixel phones to automatically screen robocalls. Pixel phones can currently screen calls in which Google Assistant will talk to the caller from an unknown number. However, call screening needs to be activated manually by a user for every phone call after which a real-time transcript is shown on the display and users need to select their replies.

Google is looking to automate this process and reduce user input to a minimum. A teardown of the latest Google Phone app v42 points to the company working on a new "Automatically screen" feature in which incoming calls from unknown numbers will be screened automatically.

Another useful option that Google is working on is "Decline robocalls." Coupled with the Automatically screen feature, your Pixel would be able to automatically screen incoming calls using Google Assistant from unknown numbers and reject them if its a robocall without your phone even ringing.

In case it is not a robocall, your phone will ring after a few seconds and a transcript of the call will be shown on the display.

With Automatic call screening enabled, Google Assistant will inform the caller that a short portion of the call will be recorded. Users have the option of saving such audio clips. Users will have the option to trigger automatic call screening for private or hidden numbers, unknown numbers, altered numbers, and numbers in Google"s spam database.

The feature is not yet live for Pixel owners in the U.S., though from the screenshots, it seems to be ready so it should be rolled out soon.
