Google is working on a massive redesign of the Nest Hub UI that will put more focus on contextual controls. Right now, despite featuring a touchscreen, the Nest Hub and Nest Hub Max"s UI is geared more towards voice interactions, thereby limiting its usefulness. With the redesigned UI, Google is looking to solve this problem by adding panels for "Home control," "Media," "Communication," and more.
As the video below shows, one can quickly access various panels by swiping on the display to control their smart home devices, control media playback, see YouTube recommendations, catch up on the news, easily make Duo calls, send a video message, and more. One can access these panels by simply tapping on the screen when the Nest Hub or the Nest Hub Max is in photo frame mode.
It is unclear if the new UI for Nest Hub demoed in the video is still being tested internally at Google or if the company has rolled it out to select beta testers under the preview program. Whatever the case might be, the new UI definitely looks like a nice change and will help improve the usefulness of the Nest Hub.
