Google launched the Nexus 4 smartphone in November 2012, but demand for the unlocked Android-based smartphone quickly overloaded the supply. At one point, there were shipment waits of over two months for the smartphone that"s made by LG.
Today, shipment dates for the Nexus 4 on the Google Play website have gone down to about one to two weeks for the 8 GB verison, and two to three weeks for the 16 GB Nexus 4. That timeframe might seem like a long time, but it"s apparently short enough that Google decided to launch a new TV ad campaign for the Nexus 4.
The one minute ad made its debut during the Grammy Awards on Sunday night, which also saw the debut of the Surface Pro TV campaign from Microsoft. While the Surface Pro ad was fun to look at, with lots of dancers and high end choreography, the Nexus 4 commercial is considerably less flashy.
The commercial showed a variety of people in various locations around the world using the Nexus 4. However, those features are pretty standard on most smartphones nowadays, including looking up the weather, finding a subway station or restaurant, and video chat. Google puts these features as part of Google Now with its various "cards", but you would be hard pressed to show what makes the Nexus 4 truly different than other Android phones other than a different UI with this ad.
