As Google continues to work on the successors to its current Pixel smartphone lineup, more details about their development have come up.
According to a report by South Korea"s Electronic Times, Google has offered to invest at least 1 trillion won (roughly $880 million) in LG Display Co. Ltd to be able to secure enough supply of flexible organic light-emitting diode (OLED) screens to be used for the company"s next smartphones. Neither LG Display nor Google have yet commented on the report.
There isn"t a lot known about Google"s upcoming handsets, but two alleged codenames have come up in the past month: Muskie and Walleye. The latter has been spotted on the Android Open Source Project"s code collaboration service, Gerrit, while Muskie is rumored to be the larger device of the two. Other specifications of the devices remain unknown.
Google"s smartphones are expected to be launched later this year, as stated by Google"s SVP of Hardware Rick Osterloh. Should Google follow a strict timeline, we’re likely to see the Pixel 2 and any derivative models around October.
